Personal background
I am: 34, a computer engineer, and originally from Philadelphia, PA. I've been crunching SETI for a couple years. Here are the specs for the machines I have running SETI:

- PIII 1200 w/512 MB running WinXP Pro
- PIII 800 w/256 MB running Win2K
- PIII 733 (OC'd to 825) w/128 MB running Win98
- Celeron A 533 w/160 MB running Win98
.
I have a slight addiction to crunching SETI. I would have more machines running SETI, but I like my marriage the way it is. 8-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why be involved if you didn't think extraterrestrial life existed... We will probably discover aliens by accident and we won't be expecting it. The danger of the discovery is that people will probably freak out. I would be surprised if chaos doesn't ensue after the discovery. I would hope that we would benefit greatly from the discovery. I am sure answers to some of our great mysteries would be revealed.

Based on my chaos theory... I wouldn't purposely transmit a beacon. We are already emitting enough signals from the earth that if anyone is listening they will hear us loud and clear.

I run SETI because I am curious about finding other life forms. There is plenty of computing power available for this project.

I think the upcoming improvements to SETI cover any suggestions I could make to the SETI creators. Keep up the good work!!!
