Personal background
Hi there!
I'm a 26 year old from Germany. I'm a "nurse" and I like Hardcore-Music, Comics and Movies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe in the existence of extraterrestrial lifeforms! (Perhaps you know this guy Erich von Däniken? He's got some really interesting theories, for example that it's more likely that god is an alien than some unseen entity!)
But imagine if we would really discover intelligent life out there! Imagine they'd come here! They'd enter our atmosphere and, for lack of communicative possibilities, considered a threat and would be shot! Their remains (biological & technical) would be studied and analyzed over and over again.
Then two things might happen:
Either we'd never see any aliens (and their valuable knowledge they might share with us) again or it's intergalactic war, baby!
But there's still a little hope mankind might evolve a bit til they finally come and visit us, so let's just wait and see. :-)

The idea of transmitting a beacon is a good one. I think we should use every option to "make contact"! Perhaps only they could provide us with the means to save mankind from itself.
About what to send I'm not sure. I guess our location in space would be a good idea. Also some hints about Hydrogen and Carbon. Something like that.

I personally run SETI@home because I think it's really great to help with such a big thing! To be involved in something like that. When one day SETI finally finds something, I can say that I helped making this possible!
...and I think we need their help!

So, keep up the good work
