Profile: David Whitlow

Personal background
My interest in science began during my early teens when the original Star Trek series was aired. Not long after that the Cosmos series by Carl Sagan sparked an interest in science, astronomy and SETI. Running SETI at home is my small contribution to Science and those like Carl who helped generate my love for Science. As Carl pointed out, the odds of finding a technologically intelligent life form within our own galaxy is good enough for me to devote my time and computers toward the search. I have also imagined how our world and culture might be positively changed if another life form was found.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It's amazing to me that my computer in Tennessee can participate in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence by analyzing radio signals from a telescope in Puerto Rico. Makes me feel that I can possibly make a difference and, if legitimate signals are found, change man's view of himself and his place in the cosmos.
