Personal background
I'm from CT USA, male & divorced, 52 and a Corporate Controller. Hobbies: Harley rider, mechanics and casino-game player. My riding days have been few since my nextdoor neighbor-couple, my closest friends, were killed on his new bike 3 miles away 3 years ago. It's not fear that's kept me down but sadness. They had two Rottweillers(Danger[M]and Kirby[F]) that I took in, since they & my Rottweiller/Lab Cross(Harley[M]) were good friends, also. Danger developed bone cancer 6 months later and I had to put him down. (Major bummer!!) Harley & Kirby are big-time buddies and all seems well with them. They've become my left-hand and right-hand shadows. I get some hilarious looks when I take them out in my Jeep Wrangler! I removed the back seats so they'd have room, so when I pass, you see a driver buried with 2 huge dogs bouncing around. And they DO love to ride in that thing. The funniest thing is when I park. Harley climbs into the drivers seat, sits up straight and puts his paws on top of the steering wheel as if he's driving. People crack up when they see that! They walk over to look and Kirby gets mad, thinking they're going to mess with HER Jeep! Scares the daylights out of them if they don't see her first! Needless to say, I don't have to worry about someone stealing or messing with THAT soft-top Jeep!

Being single, I'm not restricted by other commitments to search for the finer things life has to offer, especially those things without a price tag. I never stop learning and looking for ways of enlightenment. As an Accountant with a Tax specialty, I get the opportunity to be a service to society. I enjoy working with people and serving the greater good. It's my belief that we were put on this planet to live and work for the betterment of society. If we leave it a little better than it was when we arrived, we've done our job and will move on to a higher level of existence.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be very presumptous and arrogant for me to believe that earth-life forms are the only life forms in the universe! We'll discover extraterrestrial life forms as long as we are able to recognize what those other forms are. They may be different enough so that we don't recognize them at first or of a higher level, by common definition, so they may NOT want to be discovered. Let's face it: listen to world-wide news programs like BBC America and ask yourself if you'd like earthlings contacting YOU! I hope the more sophisticated life beyond this world observing us see the good in mankind and realize that humans DO have the potential to be beneficial, universal citizens. The risks for them appear to be the same risks for us. Mutual understanding is the key. Those that do extend the welcome better have the ability to nullify our aggression. I just hope that doesn't include their judgement to further our extinction! We've come to that brink many times by our own hands; we don't need extraterrestrial help along those lines. I believe that higher forms of life as we know it can only help our society, not hurt it. We should broadcast, as well as listen. What and how, I leave to the academic community and their undistorted viewpoints. I run SETI@Home because it helps scientific research and my own quest to benefit society in some small way. (Leave this place better than it was, remember!) The project's great and I'll remain committed to it as long as I'm needed.
