Profile: Sheldon Awai

Personal background
I was born in the year 1971, on a small Island located 11 00 N, 61 00 W In the Caribbean called Trinidad between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Trinidad the leading Caribbean producer of oil and gas, has earned a reputation as an excellent investment site for international businesses. Tourism is a growing sector, although not proportionately as important as in many other Caribbean islands. The economy benefits from low inflation and a growing trade surplus. Prospects for growth in 2005 are good as prices for oil, petrochemicals, and liquified natural gas are expected to remain high, and foreign direct investment continues to grow to support expanded capacity in the energy sector. My country stands out with such things as a Pitch Lake, on Trinidad's southwestern coast, is the world's largest natural reservoir of asphalt, the population is 1,396,585 (July 2004 est.) and very Bio-diverse with East Indian (a local term - primarily immigrants from northern India) 40.3%, black 39.5%, mixed 18.4%, white 0.6%, Chinese and other 1.2%. Our country also expirences a unique religious harmony. Our main language is English. Our Government type is parliamentary democracy and our law is based on English common law; judicial review of legislative acts in the Supreme Court. I am passionate of electronics, technology and understanding things that most people don't care about with space, time and the hidden powers of the human brain. Even the businesses that I do always revolve around technology and I am very intune with nature. A quote that sticks in my mind and has great meaning to me was by Albert Einstein; "I am convinced that He (God) does not play dice." The qualities that I'am most likely to take notice of in a person is TRUST and LOYALTY. I hope that when life is discovered somewhere other than earth that it enlightens us with a greater understanding of existance as a whole.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
