Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
From a strictly statistical perspective, it appears unlikely to me that Earth houses the sole inhabitants of our grand Universe, and as such, the search for other "intelligent" life is a worthwhile cause. There are of course other noble causes in our society, and the lack of funding for projects like SETI have forced it to become exceptionally efficient, which makes it even more attractive for me to offer my limited resources. Perhaps in time, the search can cover even broader portions of the potential communications spectrum (gravity waves, gamma emissions, etc) once the technical hurdles are surpassed.
