Profile: NASA-VET Greenbelt,Md

Personal background
German born futurist. Former member of the ground control crew at Nasa-Greenbelt, MD (1969-1973) during the Apollo missions. I think of the endless possibilities of human ingenuity, creativity, sense of adventure and exploration, and I picture Man on his quest for ever broader knowledge and mastery of his surroundings. Since the dawn of logical thought, Man the explorer has ached to visit the stars. This thirst for knowledge must be quenched. The time is now - let no one stand in the way.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Assuming that Man represents the ultimate intelligence is the height of arrogance. We will not discover other worldly intelligences until after we have conquered our own frailties, injustices, prejudices, bigotries, greed and envy not only on a personal but also a global scale. Not until that day, will others make themselves known to Man. I believe that many intelligent civilizations have risen and fallen throughout our universe's billions of years of existence. Man is now being monitored for some sign of his ascend into the realm of a benign, intelligent, loving, compassionate and yes, godly creature. Until that day, we are doomed to flounder alone in a morass of our own making. If I, as a member of an advanced civilization's exploratory team, came across a backwater such as Earth, I would keep my distance. It would not be worth the trouble I would cause, if I would suddenly appear and asked for their leader. To accept "Humans" as members of the civilized societies in this galaxy would be taking a terrible chance, having listened to their radio and watched their television broadcasts from afar. Signals have been sent since the dawn of radio. Any intelligence within 70 light-years has had the opportunity to listen, triangulate and deduce their origin. If we send any message at all, let us tell them that we will destroy all weapons of war if they will only contact us.
Logical deduction would seem to indicate that interstellar exploration requires a global economy. Such an economy can only be attained in the absence of global strife. I must assume then that any such space exploration would be conducted under laws in effect on their home planet, and with peaceful ambitions.
I run SETI@home with the hope of hastening the day when our current monitors will see the goodness in us all. I view your project as a worthwhile venture if only to tell whoever is listening and watching us, that we, the denizens of Terra will overcome our shortcomings, and beg them to be patient + wait for us.
