Personal background

ABOUT ME:

I’m a born and raised Floridian, (1959) for those who live in Florida know that we are few in numbers. Lived the majority of my life in South Florida and had a 6-year “sentence” in Sarasota with the Q-Tips and other elderly folks. I have a retail and sales background from a long while back. I am currently employed within the computer industry. I have several years experience implementing computer based technology as a Field Network Engineer and Implementation Project Manager. After getting tired of living out of a suitcase, I moved to the Technology Education segment of the IT industry. I am now a technical instructor and Microsoft Certified Trainer. I work for a Microsoft CTEC (Certified Technical Education Center) in Sunrise, Florida. I consult on the side to keep my technical skills sharp and I am also a “Licensed Surety Agent”, for those who do not know what this is, here is a hint.. not only can fix your LAN/WAN but I can also take your Network Admin out of
Jail.

MY INTERESTS:

Any activity that involves the outdoors and the ocean. Scuba diving is my number one passion; I have been a PADI Certified Scuba Diver for over 25 years. I have several advanced scuba certifications and enjoy all types of scuba diving and snorkeling in South Florida from deep wreck and drift diving off of West Palm Beach / Jupiter are to shallower diving and chasing lobsters down in the Florida Keys. I enjoy many other ocean related activities including boating, fishing, kayaking and going to the beach. When I'm not getting wet, I enjoy outdoor concerts and art festivals, bike riding, playing racquetball... just about any outdoor activity. I’m also a major Mystery Science Theater 3000 Fan, since the second season..

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

WHY SETI@HOME?:

Distributed computing is an amazing technology, but what SETI@Home is trying to accomplish is even more amazing. I never turn my server off in the evening so why not put those CPU’s to good use during the idle evening hours and help crunch some work units for a worthy cause? I have a script that starts and stops the SETI Service (don’t like the GUI version) automatically so it’s totally transparent to me. I’m currently re-modeling my home LAN and plan to build a number crunching box and dedicate it exclusively to SETI@Home

THOUGHTS ABOUT ETI:

I feel it’s very arrogant of man to think that of the “Billions and Billions” (Rest in peace Carl..) of stars out there and the even greater number of planets, that some people tell us that we are the only forms of intelligent life. Think of what Taylor (Charleston Heston) said in the first half hour of “The Planet of the Apes” (The original one.. not the rip off re-make), he stated “there has to be something better than man... has to be...” I’m a firm believer of this, one day... perhaps soon... we will know for sure.
