Personal background
Ok, I might as well put my profile here now after being in this clan
for about two years now. I found use for this less frequently used PC
in my office (Solaris w/s is my primary and constantly used one!),
and that too for a noble cause which my employer is also part of!

I am always amazed by all the "billion and billions of" :-)
narrative documentaries by Carl Sagan and would skip anything
to watch them, even if it is a repeat. Space science is always
fascinating to me. More than what gets done in space, this
field of study has too many valuable contributions to a
better living on earth itself - thanks NASA and ESA.

Yea, how ESA came into picture here? I used to, once upon a time,
work in the third Ariane development mission on behalf of my
country, of birth, very ambitious to join the then elite space club!
It's indeed a thrilling part of my lifetime, being a rocket scientist :-)

I am proud to be associated with SETI and hope the presence of ETL is
found. It'll be even more thrilling than my earlier participation in
space missions if ETL happens to be found by my computers, albeit
with my very passive involvement in this project!

Understanding the position of mankind in this vast Universe makes
anyone feel humble and finding ETL will certainly make us all,
however arrogant, understand this better.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is fair to give Prof. Sagan substantial credit for starting
the quest for ETL (extra terrestrial life). Now that various teams
(http://www.panspermia.org) have even more sound theories that would
support the presence of ETL, I feel more urged and excited to contribute
to this effort, how insignificant it may be. There's no doubt I will
only be able to catch up with the findings in Cosmic Ancestry in a
very miniscule amount, but I will try as much as I can in the little time
allocated to me on this planet.

There's no doubt in me that there's ETL. Why would so much of resources
(e.g., http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nf/20010801/tc/12427_1.html) would be
applied to this quest, if not? Of course, I would be extremely thrilled
if that is found in my life time and my hopes are getting higher day by day
as I hear more findings pointing towards the presence of ETL. It's ironical
that we will employ microcosmic technology (nano computing) to find a
microcosm in this macrocosm :-) Advances in that technology is certainly
awesome and makes me more hopeful. However, I only hope that we don't become
arrogant, in spite of what I said earlier, and start using this knowledge
of ETL in a disastrous way, both to ETL and TL.

Now that gene mapping is so advanced/completed, why not we send a core
composition of our genetic makeup in those beacons so whoever receives it
can ack with their own, if possible. This may even make them and us understand
each other better and result in less dangerous situations or conflicts!

Just like so many individual life forms on this planet collectively
contribute to the entropy of this planet, so many independent computational
engines on this planet should be able to search for the ETL in more
efficient ways. This project is very worthwhile in that respect.
