Extraterrestrial life exists, it would be foolish to believe that with the size of the universe that we are alone. Whether or not whatever is out there is intelligent or not is another story.
Maybe if we ever do make contact with an Alien race the global realization that we are not alone in the universe will draw our species together and tear down the racial and territorial segregations that still remain in our world.
We already have been transmitting a 'beacon' of radio waves out into space in all directions, what would it hurt to actually do it correctly.
This is the only global initiative I know of that has the potential of producing results in this nature of a search, I think it's an excellent application of distributed computation using the Internet. |
