Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Given the size and the age of the universe, life on other worlds is likely to exist. We believe that intelligent life has visited the Earth. We could be under the scrutiny of beings from another world as you are reading this on your screen. If ET wants to be found, ET will make its presence known. The SETI@home project is a good way to listen for that signal. As far as sending a beacon for others to find, we have been doing that since we discovered radio. Setting off nuclear explosions is like turning on the front porch light and telling ET that we are home. It also tells him that we have just enough brains to be dangerous.
