Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think life does exist out there somewhere. "It's a lot of wasted space if we are the only ones in it," to paraphrase Sagan. Is it flying around the galaxy? I don't know. I think the SETI program is the best search for life going on. We don't yet have the technology to be flying around the solar system at will yet - much less outside it.

Benefits of technology is the greatest I think - as long as we don't get more than we can handle at a time. The Human race in general is still too violent and I'm afraid we would destroy ourselves with too much knowledge all at once. I think a great start would be technology to colonize the rest of our solar system.

Rather than invite them, let them find us accidently while we keep preparing for such an event. To invite them now would be a disaster for both sides. I don't think most of the Human population is ready for such an event. Not only that but, too be pessimistic for a second here, we don't know "who" we will get! A benevolent race or a conquering race?
