Personal background
Hi,

I'm a school student in my last year of the German Abitur 2003/2004.
When I registered here, I was hoping to find E.T. or any other Star Trek participants ;). Today I do want to support S.E.T.I. for finding any signs of intelligent life.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is cynical to think that we are the only life forms in the whole galaxy or even the whole universe! We will probably never find intellegent life during my own life time because the galaxy is a bit more than just a few star systems to check. Also, our race is able to receive and send signals to outer space for only couple of centuries,.. also we exist for only a blink of an eye relative to the age of our universe.
So it is quite possible that other alien lifeforms will not evolve to our technological standard until our race is estinguished again. (and the other way around!! e.g. Star Wars :D)
If we make contact with an extra terrestrial life form, this could mean, that the nations of our world would be melted together to one nation,.. the nation of earth.
And then we hopefully would be able to treat our planet like it should be treatened, with respect to its nature and ALL its inhabitants including the ones doing all the work in the 3rd world countries.

I think we already have sent a beacon with the information of earths relative position to the milky way galaxy,...
