Personal background
Andy Wilson,

Aged 35 & 1/2, eBusiness Application Consultant from Nottingham, central England.

Eat, drink and sleep computers, right since my Sinclair ZX80 and Vic20, anyone remember them?

Been about a bit. Served 9 years inthe Royal Navy Submarine Service, been all over; Florida, Norway, North Pole, Gibraltar (more times than I can remember) plus dozens of other places ad nausium.

Veteran of Desert Storm, it takes a bit of explaining how a submarine gets involved in a desert war, but trust me, we were there.

Now work for a software house, bringing eCommerce to the masses.

There is still much of the world I want to see, perhaps New Zealand next, just have to see.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Imagine the number of Galaxies, untold numbers of stars.......and what is beyond?, perhaps more. An endless sea of stars, we will never ever know if there is a boundary.

Life has prospered on this planet through pure chance. Like "Little Bear's" bowl of porridge, not too hot, not too cold. Just right!

And the chance of that? Lets say a million to one. So for each million stars and systems, one has the capacity to harbour life. And if only one in a million of those support a civilisation then we are looking at 1,000,000,000,000 to 1.

Well we are looking at a number of stars many multiples of that number. Is there life on other planets? oh yes; it is a mathematical certainty. Life is out there we just have to look.

I am a sci-fi fan and love the Star Trek and all its offshoots. Many may mock those who look forward to warp drives, worm holes travel, anti-matter converters and inertial dampers.

But one day they will come, it was only a lifetime ago that man acheived powered flight, it is the human spirit to discover and understand that will drive invention and innovation. It will all come with time.

Until the time comes when we can proactively seek ET, we need to look and listen skywards. And whoever had the genius idea of SETI@home, then hats off to you. What a superb way of utilising our (we folks in the Global Village) spare processor power.

One of us will one day be credited with picking up a signal. It may well be only one, but we all can take pride and credit that we all[/b] put something into such a worthwhile project.

Good hunting all.

Andy Wilson
