As for ETI, well it comes down to faith. Faith in GOD, faith in man, faith in ETI, ...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I hope that it exists. As for our discovery of such existance I am sure it will be accidental and probably by the least credible person. We tend to ignore parts of society so it may have already happened and we are too conceited and pompous to see/hear or feel it. I don't even think I can imagine the benefits but the dangers well... We are still troubled with people of different race, those who speak a different language, person not as well educated or persons who have health problems, people who act differently or who smell or have different religious beliefs etc...How could we ever accept this new life? How sad that this life could be here and we have not allowed ourselves to experience it? Maybe the answer is here?
2. Our transmissions should at least include the acts that we commit here on earth every day. Our actions speak louder than words or electronic signals.
3. I run SETI because I wish to help a fellow graduate student. I have had this on a computer since 1998 or there abouts. It gives me joy to know that in a small way I am helping someone with their passion of discovery.
