Profile: Marc Leuchtenberger

Personal background

I'm Marc, from Germany,
born in the wellknown Hanseatic city and federal state of Hamburg in 1967, currently living in the Franconian town of Erlangen.

Formerly a chemist I am working as a systems administrator now.

Besides my computer obsession I love music in all variations, singing and playing several instruments by myself, and like the feeling of "being on stage". ;o)

Third addiction is my motorbike, a brandnew "Honda ST-1300 Pan European", the most comforting and sporty bike I ever saw.

And I love people in general! :-)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Well, about extraterrestrial life...

That's a difficult question.

Mainly I believe in such existences, for prove of it I volunteer this humble project.

If there is a way of communicating or even visiting each other, it generates the question, why we havn't been contacted officially by neighbours yet.

Our main limitation is the fact, that until now the Arecibo Radio Observatory and all other detection systems detect radiation within our known physical limit, the lightspeed. If no Signals are transmitted through theoretical existent "wormholes", our receptions show us a nice glance into the far past. This would be nice, too, but no evidence of todays living neighbours. Our only chance IMHO is, to get contacted by neighbours, that overcome the lightspeed, whatever workaround it requires.

Next questions will be "Are possible visitors peaceful? Do intelligence and the ability to overcome such distances neccesarily generate the urge for peace and coexistence?".

But that's another story.

Before we judge interstellar political relationships, we really should come to more peace on our lovely blue home planet first! Everybody may ask herself, if she really feels like a "Terranean", or just like a French, a German, an English, American, a Russian, Chinese, etc., or even just an inhabitant of her hometown, countryside or sportsclub. Peace begins in every individual, between two people, regardless of religion or ideology.

Well, "The Hope Dies Last"... :o}
