Personal background
I am a student of computer science living in Sankt Augustin, a city near Bonn, Germany. I do my studies at university of applied science cologne -campus Gummersbach.
I was born in 1977 in Braunschweig, Germany.

Since I needed some money, in 1996 together with a friend I founded a small computer-trading an service company called F.U.N. Systems - Maier & Reddig GbR... we are still growing up.
All our servers and workstations at several locations participate in calculating data for the SETI @ Home project.
Theese are 24 PCs at this time from Pentium class 200MMX up to really fast engines.
We are Operating on Microsoft Windows as well as on Linux... thanks to SuSE GmbH for distributing a very good Linux Package in Germany...

That is all for computer business at this time...

The time I do not spent working or studying I do some snowboarding, reading fantasy books or speeding up my car...

That's all, folks... stay tuned
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do not belive in alien lifeforms, I know, they do exist, because of logical reasons. So the earth is only one of millions or more planets in the universe. Why should it be the only one with some kind of "intelligent" lifeform living on its surface??... The chance that we are the only ones is about null and nothing...

I think its always interesting and good to get into contact with someone you do not know, does not matter if this one is human or not...
Well, maybe it is dangerous to the alien species to meet us, but I do not think it is the other way round...
There is no reason why an alien lifeform should be aggressive and their only thoughts might be: "Yeah, just another stupid planet... let's blast away and crush it into tiny pieces of stone and dust..."

Why should they?? Think we could learn from each other, once we are able to communicate...

Yes, I think we should send some nonsense into space... first of all it does not really matter, what kind of information we should transmit. we think in words and letters, that might not even exist in the alien "language"... and sending some kind of universal information ist quite stupid as well... sending pi for example... if they are able to scan the skies for our beacon I am shure, they know pi very well... we do not have to tell them so far...
If we do some transmissions they sould be designed to be seen... not to be understood...

I do run SETI@home on every PC in this house and in any shop and office of our company, yust to help seeing any alien beacon... the more computing power you give, the faster you will recieve results... and I am sure, there is something out there that we can find... we only have to do it... and that is the problem... we are not able to watch all around the sky any second a day, but we should not get tired giving our best...
