Personal background
Hi all SETI people! I live in Melbourne, Australia. I recently saw CONTACT, don't laugh - you loved it too! So after the film i was on the net lloking for ALL information, i suddenly wanted to know about radio telescopes and the search for ET. I had no idea that i could be some part of such a complex search, but there i was ten minutes later downloading SETI, ever so excited i installed and received my first work unit! WOW, cool! Im still watching and learing about all the tech stuff, but i cant tell you guys how honoured i am to lend CPU power to this most excellent cause, whoever thought of this is a CHAMPION of all CHAMPIONS. Ive been crunching now for 30 hours and im still only 60% done!! Im 26 years old, male. I play drums in various bands in Australia and think it would be pretty cool to be a co-finder of ET! I like many haven't yet gotten past the stage of starring at the screen hoping to visually spot a signal, i know it's crazy given my knowledge in this field, i just like it, y'know! It also appears to others observing that i know what im doing, laughing...... at least i'm honest!! So, i've been now to nearly every web site i can find related to SETI and Arecibo. I want to work at SETI when i grow up! I'm not sure i'll ever be usefull in this field, ANYWHERE, but i could always walk around looking at stuff like i know what im doing......! Mabee not. If SETI ever needs such a person, please dont hesitate to contact me on 555 - THE LOOKER.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Oh yea, they are out there! How could they not be? I doubt that such a small minded race like humans could ever be the only life form to have evolved in the Universe. I'm no gambler, but if it was a bet i'd have to put money on Aliens exsisting. Its a mathematical certainty. Well, possible dangers in finding ET could be that he's much bigger in real life, or that he is not too happy about the whole thing and kills us all with a big bad space age thing. Eventually a human would fall in love with one of the aliens, thus leading eventually to breeding, i think that would be most interesting to watch on the news, but also another danger involved in finding them. Yes transmisions should be sent from earth. It should suggest we are nice, but we can kick a** if necesary, AND mabee advertise how cheap certain items of interest are here on Earth, like an FM radio ad for Mcdonalds drive thru menu....
