Hello: Joey Terrell here. I have participated with SETI since I first heard of it from an article in the Chicago Tribune in August 1998.
I own a Denny's Diner in Mokena, Illinois and recently was selected by the Illinois Restaurant Association as Restaurantuer of the year for the State of Illinois. Yes, you heard right, I own a Denny's--America's breakfast place.
I have been interested in SETI since I was a child in 6th grade and read a book about Percival Lowell. Ever since then I have been hooked.
Mokena, is a small rapidly growing town south of Chicago. That's where I live. I am married to a lovely bride of 14 years and have 4 grown children, who are great people.
I think that we should broadcast beacons to the 20% of the sky that is most likely to have life. That is that broad band that has been deemed habitable by astronomers because the likelyhood of something running into us is low.
I think that Seti should keep running the programs and they should break up the people who are running the program by having a captain for every 100 or so people, with whom the person (a newbie) could correspond, as response to even simple questions at SETI must be overwhelming.
Finding E.T.s might be dangerous, especially if they are far more advanced than our life forms. But I really think that the "Human Spirit" exist throughout the gallaxy, so if a life form is more advanced that us and have the blood lust that we fear, they would have figured out how to blow each other up by now. So any life form more advanced than us would have to have that "Human Spirit!"
