Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the SETI@home project is a wonderful idea. The monumental amount of data which has to be processed could never be done in a reasonable amount of time, so using a distributed processing network makes wonderful sense (however one hopes the Social Security Administration or the IRS never decides to implement a similar system to cut down on their computational time and resources).

Do I believe in extra-terrestrial life? Yes. Given the recent evidence that bacteria can survive damned near any place in the universe, plus the number of solar systems with planets, life in some form or another out there statistically has to exist. Does that life look like us or ET? I don't know. But I'm guessing there's more single cell life out there than you can shake a stick at. I hope we'll get a better idea if there's intelligent, communicative life out there as well within my lifetime. So you people have (based on statistics) another 33 years to do it.
