Profile: Illsidgus

Personal background
I am a Master Sergeant (MSgt) in the United States Air Force, soon to be retired MSgt Henry of the USAF. I figured that 24 years was enough time to devote to king and country. Now its my time.
I am a science/science fiction fan and have been for almost fourty years. To me space was the final frontier long befor Star Trek declared it so. As a child living out in the country in Illinois, my family and I would sit outside nights to watch Sputnik move across the sky. What a thrill that was. In my teens, I watched every space shot I could and stayed up late to watch the first moon landing. On of my greatest desires is to get to fly in space. Alas thought, I know that will never come to pass.
My free time is spent in wood working (lutherie to be more precise), metal detecting, and making music. I have been a semi-professional musician for 35 years. The last band I was in (Maybe Next Week) was in Bitburg Germany while I was stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base. Oh, I also read a great deal.
I suppose I would characterise my life as pretty much ordinary. For a career military person that is.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does E.T. exist? I don't know. I find it hard to imagin life not existing elswhere in the univers, in great abundance. I'm not so sure that it would be a good idea for us to discover other life out there until we can learn to get along with each other and put me and others like me (military) out of a job.
