| I can't remember who said it, but the quote that always comes to mind when I think about the SETI project goes something along the lines of: "Either we're alone in the universe or we aren't. Either possibility is mind-boggling." I do think extraterrestrial life exists; the universe is way too big for us to be completely alone. And when we finally discover it, I think it's going to cause a dramatic and far-reaching global shift in our attitudes towards religion, metaphysics, science....well, a broad spectrum of things, really. I just hope we react to it with open minds and hearts, and not give in to the fears that make us humans do all sorts of silly things.
I think we should be transmitting communication for extraterrestrial life to find. I mean, if we have neighbors out there somewhere, we should try our best to say hello. ;)
I run SETI@home because I feel very strongly about the quest to find and make contact with life on other worlds, and I'm pleased that the opportunity to assist in this in my own small way has been made available to me. I'm pleased to be a member of this community, now (as I write this) just a hair under 4 million members strong.
