Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1 - Somewhere. I think live microorganisms on "nearby" bodies will be discovered first.

2. We are already transmitting like a beacon. Microwave and other high-energy radiation has been emmitted by our planet for over a century. The idea of focussing a dedicated beacon (presumably a higher order of magnitude of energy radiated than previously as well as continued maintenance?) is intriguing. But it would only be a good idea if it can be demonstrated that the increased investment of energy is justified by an increased probability of communication.

3. I would like to contribute to the exploration of space. It is my dream to see a renaissance of space exploration that would engenders a era of social evolution that would benefit all of humanity.
