Personal background
How you doing folks? My name is Kieran, I'm a 30 year old Structural Engineer from the midlands of Ireland - Birr, Co. Offaly to be precise. Myself and an Architect run a consultancy here (www.hsdesign.ie). That's the plug for the company taken care of then.
I'm a member of Paddy's in Space, the biggest Irish team on seti@home, and the only one in the top thousand in the world. At time of writing (mid-June '07), we're ranked at 386 and rising by the day. That's on Total Credit. On Recent Average Credit, we're currently 68th in the world. That's not bad. We're always looking for new crunchers if you're looking for a team to join.

Updates on the above:
On July 1st 2007 - Currently ranked at 338 TC. (Average overtake of 3 places per day.) 64th on RAC.
On July 18th - Hit 300 mark in terms of TC.
September 5th - 226th on TC. 50th in the world on RAC.
January 19th 2008 - 109th on TC. 50th on RAC.
February 21st - Hit 100 mark on TC. 48th on RAC.
June 26th - 86th on TC. 43rd on RAC.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The huge question - the phenomenon that we call Life, how did it begin? I'm a big fan of this subject, and the scientist/author I think has come closest to answering this question is Graham Cairns Smith in his book, Seven Clues to the Origins of Life. A short book, written in plain english, well worth a read. I won't go into it here but as a teaser, the evolutionists and the creationists may find they have more in common than they thought. See Genesis 3:19. Dust, clay, same difference. It's a pretty far-fetched theory, but it has to be, because in the 4.6 odd billion years this planet has been in existence, we only know of it happening once. So could it have happened on other planets in the universe? I don't know if we'll ever answer that question, but we have to try. It would really blow the debate wide open.
