Personal background
I am originally from Puerto Rico but living in US for the past 16 years. I studied electronics back home and worked as a technician in Chicago for 10 years before entering the Seminary. As of today, I am two weeks away from ordination. It may sound strange to you that I am interested in knowing if there is life in other planets. After all, the creation narratives found in the scriptures seem to assure us that we are the first of our kind created. In my opinion, this is true but it does not discard the possibility of other creatures existing in other planets. How are they like, how intelligent, and how compatible is our concept of life with what we could discover some day, will be fascinating to know.

God’s creative power is always at work. Our universe is expanding out of nothingness at this very instant, and it shows no signs of stopping. It seems that God is preparing the universe to make more room for the possibilities of human imagination. We are not quite ready yet to our jump into deep space, but some day our brothers and sisters down the line will be ready, and I can only imagine the marvels they will discover. God’s creation so far has not ceased to amaze us. I am sure those leaping into deep space at this moment, two hundred years into the future, will not be disappointed.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The SETI project is a good attempt to quench our curiosity about intelligent and "advanced" life in other planets. If there is a slight chance of us discovering something like that in our time, I cannot think of a better way to do so.

What makes this experiment special is that there are thousands of people united in hope, looking into the future.

It is ironic though that we are so eager to find life somewhere else in the universe while we have so much of it on Earth. The question for us to answer will be if we should be allowed to find life in other planets when there are in our midst those who do not hesitate to terminate it? We look for it in space as if looking for the greatest treasure, yet we treat it as nothing here on Earth. Maybe, the only reason we have not found it, it's because we are not ready yet.
