Personal background
Hello everybody!!!

Well I'm 26 and Irish! (nearing 27 by the second!) I've been fanatical about space since I was about 7 or 8. I owe this to my dad who did exactly the same as in the film Contact and pointed out to me one night that what I thought was a star was really the planet Venus. Was so fanatical about space that my parents wrote to Jim'll fix it (for those of you old enough to remember that!) and asked if I could goto Jodrell Bank with Patrick Moore - alas the git never replied! Oh well, at least I've seen Halley's Comet, and a few meteor showers here and there!

I think Jodie Foster best summed up my feelings by saying "If there's nothing out there, it must be an awful waste of space."

Results don't happen overnight, but if we don't keep trying, we'll never know. I'd love to hear that any kind of evidence that life exists outside our own world. I for one, believe it does.

When I'm not gazing at the sky or on the NASA website, I'm doing a degree in Graphic design! (Almost finished!) Hobbies include badminton, judo, and photography. Also love travelling! I am a mad Red Dwarf and Star Trek fan also, and when feeling childish, love the Simpsons!!!

Am currently reading 'Fingerprints of the Gods' by Graham Hancock, and am totally in awe of things like the Nazcan lines, the pyramids, Macchu Picchu, Dead Sea Scrolls, the piri reis map, and all the other unexplained things that have been left on this planet. (Also wish the US government would tell the truth about Area 51!!!)

Sadly got far too enthusiastic about the face on Mars, when we all saw it, but still hold out hope that perhaps that planet is undergoing some sort of genesis effect and will one day resemble our own. (Or was it earth of the past?!)

Also devastated about Columbia...had emailed those astronauts 2 days prior to the landing so felt pretty shocked when I saw the news. For anyone that's interested and doesn't know, you can goto the Nasa website and email the ISS! I only found out about a month ago!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have no idea how or when it will be discovered, but I guess every day we leave behind takes us a step closer. I just find it impossible to believe that we are alone out here in space, perhaps humans have always felt the need to believe there are others because deep down, no-one likes to be alone. Am so glad to see so many people around the world (esp.the non-believers!) running SETI on their pcs! It also gives everyone the chance to make new friends with like-minded people!

Why do I run Seti at home-put simply, the need to know. I am convinced we are not alone. Why should we be so selfish to assume that this was all put here just for us?!

One thing for sure--when it happens, it will have an unbelievable effect on mankind!
