Personal background
At the time I'm writing this, I am 21 years old and a senior at San Diego State University. Hopefully, I will be graduating in May 2002 with a B.A. degree in sociology and a minor in social and personality psychology. After that I might try accounting, and some sign language courses. As you can see, my interests are all over the map. So...who knows what profession I will eventually end up choosing. My hobbies and interests include playing and listening to music; trying to read through any works of classic literature that I think look remotely interesting; spending time with my fascinating feline friends; and participating in the "X-Files" online fan community (discussion lists, fanfiction reading, etc.) I'm a loner, but I don't usually mind. A lifelong companion would be nice, but hey, whatever God provides. I'll deal.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it's entirely possible that E.T. life exists. I'm not sure of the chances that it will be "intelligent" like humans, though. I think there would be mass panic on earth and it would change our whole world view to find that there is life elsewhere. I do not, however, think it would contradict my Christian beliefs. Should we send info out for this possible E.T. life to find? My opinion is that, even if this alien race is as advanced as ours, or even if they're beyond us, we are being too ethnocentric to believe that they will be similar enough to us in biological structure and mental processes that they would be able to understand anything we send out. They could be creatures the likes of whom no science fiction author has ever remotely imagined. I do think we should continue to keep our "ears" peeled for signals from other planets, whether they may be intentional or just intercepted communications. Why do I run the SETI application? Well, what can I say. Fox Mulder believes the truth is out there. If it is, I want to help him find it. Running SETI@home takes no effort at all on my part. I think it should be running on every publicly owned computer in America (government offices, etc.)
