Personal background |
Hey, I'm 21 from Newfoundland, Canada, and I've been running SETI@home for almost 4 years on 2 seperate computers. My first Desktop (top of the line in 1999)was a Dell Dimension XPS R450, basically a PII 450 w/256MB SDRAM and all the bells and whistles of course....it's a DELL! Then in the spring of 2002 I sprung for another Dell. This time it was a Dimension 8200 series, basically a PIV 2.0GHz w/512MB PC800-RDRAM(Chews up the work units like they're going out of style!). This time around I only purchased the CPU because my monitor and speakers and the rest, are not quite obsolete yet. And well, I had to get the black mouse and keyboard to match, heh heh. Still saved quite a bit, and at the same time having a little more cash to put into my machine, like the Phillips DVD-writer, which hasn't had much use yet....YET! If you can't tell already, I'm all about the "Out with the old, in with the new...." mentality for the most part. Especially if its got to do with tech. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
It is illogical to think that life does not, or for that matter, can not exist outside what we 'know'. We are an ignorant society when it comes down to even comprehending the shear size of our constantly growing universe. I believe there is ET life and even intellagence out there but because of the size and distance boundaries, I believe it will still be a while(maybe 100 years or more) before we have any sure signs or even proof of their existance. Either way, I think the technology to communicate is within our grasp but it is yet to be stumbled upon, much like many other past discoveries. |
