Personal background |
I'm a 20 y.o. student from Estonia. Currently studying at Tartu Aviation College to become an airplane (or helicopter) pilot. Besides aviation I'm interested in photography and video, IT, mountaineering and rock climbing, classical music (I play violin). I'm a great fan of Tolkien and his writings. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
It's very likely that ET life exists. As ... said in "Contact" "It would be a big waste of space, if there were only us". Don't know when or how we'll discover them. It might be even up to them to decide when and how we will discover them. When discovered there could be both dangers and benefits. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I don't think there will be great dangers when discovering them.
Ofcourse we should transmit a beacon. Because the only things that can be sent via a radiosignal without encoding are numbers, then for the beginning maybe some prime numbers to show that we have some intelligence. It would also be good to send some pictures of us, but these would have to be encoded and the receiving intelligence most likely couldn't decode them.
I run SETI@home, because I beleve there is ET life somewhere out there and want to help finding it. The SETI@home project is very positive, because it brings together a lot of free computing power. |
