Personal background
I am a 57 year old (semi) retired UNIX sys admin. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA), married with 2 grown children and 5 (?-it keeps changing!) grandkids.

I enjoy family, fishing, photography and computers (how else could I sit down at my computer for 15 minutes and 4 hours later not know where the time went?) and solving computer program problems that "CAN'T" be fixed.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In all of the billions of galaxies, with billions of stars, and billions of planets, I find it hard to believe that this little insignificant planet is the ONLY one that contains life as we know it. And who is to say that there isn't a "life form" that is totally different from anything we (as a so called "intelligent" life form) know about. To be so presumptuous is to walk around with blinders on, limiting our view of ourselves and the universe that surrounds us. We should therefore continue to look for extraterrestrial life, and maybe we will be "found" in the process.

500 years ago man "knew" the world was flat. 15 years ago man "knew" we had identified the smallest sub-atomic particles. What will we "know" tomorrow?
