Profile: Trevor Swain

Personal background
I’m a 47 year old MIS manager , married with 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren. I live in the UK just outside Birmingham in a town called Halesowen. I have been involved in IT , in some form or other, for over 20 years. My main hobbies , when not playing with the grand kids who are a complete joy to me, are reading and travelling. My favourite books are almost anything of Sci-Fi type but the book or books that I keep going back to are The Lord of the Rings, just waiting for the film to come out later this year. As for travelling as I have said to the people who have employed me over the years “ I only come to work to go on holiday as often as I can “ . Just come back from a wonderful holiday in Mexico.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think that there is life out there YES as to when we will have some form of contact from them I’m not sure it’s a very big place out there and we have only searched a very small part . As to any dangers or benefits I think that as a whole the human race needs to grow up a bit before we make any contact with extraterrestrials what with wars, poverty and crime another civilisation may look at us and think of us as quite low down on the evolutionary ladder. I run the seti program both at work and at home, mainly because I’m interested in the project ( I would love to be the one that finds the signal ) and secondly like many others its better that most of the other screen savers around.
