I believe that life outside of this planet is very much possible. Whether this life is intelligent or advanced enough to be able to inquire the same about life outside their planet is left to speculation. The efforts of this group are wonderful and I'm proud to be a part of it.
I used to run Seti@home for a less than intellectual reason: the Windows GUI was very nice. I have since then come to appreciate the mathematics behind the work. Finding best fitting Gaussians with FFT algorithms is a remarkable and wonderful application of mathematics to "real world" situations. It gives me a chance to show students how math is used outside of a classroom setting.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
