Personal background
I am 42 years old, working for a local media company in the Payroll Department. My family keeps me very busy, but when I can, I enjoy singing in the choir at church. I enjoy myself the most when involved watching a great movie. I do spend a lot of time on the computer as well. I have always been interested in if there is life on other planets. I really became hooked when seeing the movie "Contact", with Jodie Foster. I was thrilled when a co-worker told me about the Seti At Home web site and the special screen saver. I know it will be only a matter of time before it is discovered that there is life on other planets.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I truly believe in extraterrestrial life. No one can really know for sure when life on another planet will be discovered, but I believe it may happen sooner then anyone can imagine. I am not sure how we will discover it, but we need to try every way possible. We are already living in a dangerous world. Terror attacks, global warming, diseases killing humans, humans killing humans and I can go and on. It is time for a change, to reverse the effects we have done to this planet and to our own species and finding life elsewhere will forever change the world we live in. It will of course have effects, but we will not know until that day comes. Depending on what is found will depend if it will benefit man-kind or not. The human race has made gigantic leaps when it comes to science and we must keep that pace of going forward, not backward. We must continue the search extraterrestrial life.

2. Yes, a beacon should be sent. We should send information that first shows we want only to be at peace. We should show our different cultures. How we all live differently, rich, poor and in between. We should show our earths most prized beauty. Our nature, mountains, oceans, etc. and our animals from land to sea, of this planet we call earth.

3. A co-worker was running it at work and I had to have it at home myself. Even though there is a small chance that I would be part of the discovery of ET life, whatever the chance, I wanted to take part in it. I believe the project is extrememly important for the survival of man-kind. It will only a matter of time that we out grow this planet and we will need to expand where we live. Finding ET life just may help us to do that.
