Personal background
I am very interested in astronomy, and collect Astronomy Now magazine every month. If you have found a result on your search for E.T., please e-mail me and tell me what to expect if I find something. I also love watching DVD's and videos. I have been interested in the subject of astronomy since I was seven years old, now seventeen, I still find it difficult to come to terms with it. (Meaning, I don't understand catalogue numbers, what NGC stands for etc, etc.)
But, one doesn't have to be a genius to be able to enjoy the subject they choose.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think there is a civilisation out there somewhere, because if there isn't, we wouldn't constantly search like we are now, even if it brings out the faintest signal. We should scan the skies in ALL areas all at once, that way we will have the hope of finding a new breed, and if we search more than one area of the sky at a time, we won't have long to wait. If we call it 'intelligent' we are probably wrong to do so, because if we have sent out our signals, one question remains: WHY AREN'T THEY RESPONDING? E.T. and Contact really have a point in the search for E.T. But, if you think about the Movie, what prooves that what may be out there has head, body, and feet? And, like Sam Neil said on one of his Space series programs, what if it doesn't need oxygen to survive?
