Personal background
Born in 1971 (do the math to figure out his age now), Derek is an Art Teacher, Artist, and certified Web Technician. Macs are his machine of choice because of early exposure to the Apple II in Middle School. Working with Photoshop, Illustrator and other graphics programs, Macs have proven to be the early machine of choice and still reign supreme.

He currently is using a G4 867MHz, 384 MB of RAM, 60 GB hard drive to get the job done.

Derek lives in Chicago, Illinois and enjoys working with his students, working in his studio and music ranging from Beatles to Gorillaz.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My belief is that life DOES exist beyond ourselves. Their form or level of exixtance is what I believe is the question. While we use light rays between infrared and ultraviolet as the spectrum for sight and assume water is necessary for life, what is to say something could exist beyond one of these spectrums and live off other compunds?

Our efforts to send a message are a sign not olny to find life, but to let other know that we exist. The opportunity to meet and interact will most likely be their decision. Based on how I perceive the planet, they will opt to wait a few thousand millenia.
