Personal background
Hello!

I'm 66 and can't believe I'm this old. I don't feel this old, but am really glad I'm still alive. I say that because, when I joined the newly formed US Army Special Forces back in 1956, I thought I and those my own age were invincible. During the next six years; I found out how wrong I was. After the Army and all my life since, I have thought a lot about the meaning of the biological, as well as the spiritual aspect of life. We have all had close friends and relatives die. Most of the time, when I was forty or so, they were usually older than I. Now most of the people dieing are my age or younger.. The reason is, I have fewer old friends than younger. Life is wonderful and we should savor every second of every day. Our life is very fragile.
After the Army ( I should have stayed in college ) I was a project manager / high rise construction Supt., a knitting mill Supt., Project manager of environmental cleanups and a real estate broker. I have four wonderful children that have a lot of integrity, good self esteem and we love and respect each other. During my life I became a widower, happiliy created one ex-wife and now enjoy life with my 13 year junior girlfriend.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that we have all wondered about life, our existence, the Universe and God. The biggest questions probably being about life, God, Mortality and the Universe. From birth we each journey our own full circle to our date, with our own mystery moment; when we become another speck in part of the history of man. When I was young, I was enthralled with the science fiction stories of the fifties. What fed this was the impression that almost anything might be scientifically possible, the infinity and profundity of space and the belief that there must be other life in the Universe. Today we have astromomers discovering new planets monthly and now know, there are billions of galaxies. How many stars it that? I think of the Earth as being one grain of sand or dirt and the rest of grains on Earth as being the possibilities that exist for life in space. For me it not a question if there is life, but where and how many thousands of places. Remember; almost every thing we ever discovered on Earth, including the ability to send and receive signals from the galaxies, was done in the last 100 years, a microsecond in time. When intelligent life is discovered in space it will be front page news for ever. I have found the Seit@hoome project extremely interesting, as an expression of my involvment with that search for other life. So Seti@home which one of us will be the one to download the magic work unit or units?
