Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well, I'm almost positive that SOME form of ET life exists. It would be entirely too arrogant of us to think that in all the vastness of the universe this is the only planet that contains life.

The Benefits of such a discovery could be almost anything. It's the dangers that should primarily concern us at this point. From mass hysteria over the realization that we are NOT alone in the universe to being considered a threat by an advanced life form that we could not compete with militarily. I think though that our primary concern should be with how we, as humans, deal with the realization that there IS something else out there. If it were discovered, we could no longer hide with our collective head buried in the sand...

Yes, I think we should transmit a beacon. What should we send? Well, that IS the question. Perhaps we should send several beacons. I think the thing to do would be to begin by transmitting a code that descibes our DNA. Afterall, the whole universe is made primarily of the same things. After that, some simple form of communication key. Something realitively easy to decode in almost any languange or form of communication. The message should be simple and non-threatening. It should describe who we are, and that we're attempting to determine if there IS anything else out there. That we are peaceful explorers.

Why? Well, basically, because I believe in what you're doing and it allows me to participate at some base level. I sort of feel like I'm a part of the search... After all, who knows... I might be the one to process the first piece that proves there IS life out there...
