Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1/. Absolutely yes.
I think that certain people are already fully aware of this fact and have been for some time now.
The benefits are limitless. IF we can crack the Zero Point energy field, it will produce limitless free clean energy. Money would be obsolete almost overnight.
Dangers? Depends on the attitude of the visitors. I do not necessarily accept they will be altruistic. Fundamentalist religious groups will have a very hard time coming to terms with it, and I forsee trouble there.
2/. We are already doing this. Why worry about it now. It's too late.
3/. Because I like to be involved - even at this level I find the entire concept fascinating.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
