Personal background |
I am a 50 year old Physics/Physical Science/Applied Physical Science teacher, living and working near O'Hare airport, in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. With all the planes going overhead, there is no way I would ever be able to detect anything above the flight path. Thank heavens the antenna is not around here.
I love the out of doors activities, traveling to open air places, working in my garden, hiking our national parks and forests or just kicking back in the yard with a good friend.
As a teacher, having the summers off, I have been fortunate enough to visit all the states of the U.S. Meeting the people that make this country what it is is about the best activity I can think of. The diversity and personalities of the people that make up this "melting pot" are so intersting. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I have been interested in Physics and Astronomy for as long as I can remember. To this day, I love to be out in the country, gazing at the stars and wondering. Could there be, is there, why would there not be, life out there.
I hope that some day we make contact with other civilizations and have an opportunity to exchange ideas. Maybe I will be a part of that search. I have been running this program for almost two years. I have been using as few as one computer or as many as 9 computers. I have a few simple goals, to reach 5k units, to get to the 99.500% position or to be in the top 15k users. With new people joining, I don't know which I will hit first. I tell my students about this and they wonder why I do it. I tell them that being in the top 3/4 of something is cool, being in the top 90% is better, but to be striving for almost 100%, that is what life is about.
Let's keep going and hope that someday, we recognize a signal. |
