Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.) Life definitly exists beyond earth. We would be nieve in the assumption of ouselves, our realm being the only one in the infinite vastness of the universe.
We may not even realize our discovery of extraterrestrial life. It probably exists in a form beyond our understanding. We continue to persue the form of life as we understand, in carbon form with water as a base. What if this form exists as silicon with ammonia base, two very common elements in the universe. The only danger of the discovery is with respect to how organized
religion is going to try and account for it. Remember...in his image and likeness. The benefits are limitless inasmuch as humanties thirst for knowledge.

2.) We are continuously sending beacons since the invention of radio transmission. No further are necessary as intellegent life will learn to recognize these. Remember those fist radio and television broadcasts are still out there, approximatly 70 light years away. Specific transmissions are a futal waste of precious research dollars.

3.) I am running it because I have the resource at my employment and I want to make my mark on posterity. The project is an excellent methot to do this type of research. The crime is not in discovery however in the lack of effort.
Other projects sould be done which could be of benefit, perhaps the difficult
calculations required in gene research.
