Personal background
I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'm a Technology Technician in a grammar school. Although I help with pupil projects (my main field is electronics), I develop high quality resource material for examination classes and trainee teachers.

I enjoy most television programmes but Lost and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica are my current favourite.

I devour books (I'm an information junkie), both fiction and non-fiction and I enjoy watching anything technology related on the TV.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't remember where or when I heard about SETI (The X-files?) - I just knew I wanted to be a part of it. I run it on three computers at present & I've just completed my second year.

I've always followed technology and my main sources are the TV and newspapers. The Arecibo telescope impressed me lo-ong before I knew it's name.

I must congratulate those who came up with the idea of using home computers to extend the range of the SETI project. I'm glad to be a part of it!

I know I will annoy a lot of creationists and Christians when I say that I believe in extraterrestrial life. It would be so arrogant to believe that we are the only living beings in the Universe, let alone the Galaxy!

We're always learning new things but where space is concerned - we've barely begun the scratch that will scratch the surface.

Encountering extraterrestrial life would be excellent but at what cost? Humankind is still too selfish and if one country met the aliens first, would they share the knowledge? On the other hand, if the aliens were malevolent, could this unite the people of Earth and forever end the threat of war?

Whatever happens, at least we can say that we tried, that we didn't just sit around enclosed in our own little world. Part of the charm of the human mind is its propensity to question everything. Including our role in the great scheme of things.

Peace to us all.
