Personal background
I'm a 25 year old I.T. I wire in computer networks, and help with laptop, desktop and server maintaince. I'm on-line quite a bit and figured I could loan out some CPU cycles to help out with SETI... :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.) I do think Extraterrestrial life exist. But I don't think we'll find it using radio frequencies. For a couple reasons, If the life forms are superiourly advanced that distance space travel is trivial they probably would of abandonded radio transmitting because it only transmits at the speed of light. Or that life does exist but isn't advanced enough to of discovered radio. I think we'll probably be visited before SETI will discover extraterrestrial life. The benefits could be enormous if they are friendly, such as giant leaps forward in technology, The Dangers could be if they are command and conquer for resources that got played out in Independance Day. Even though it was just Hollywood it would be a frieghtening scenario if they weren't friendly.

2.) I think we should transmit a beacon for others to find, it couldn't hurt. The information should encode a location of where we can be found, and also encode we are eager to find other beings to show that we aren't alone in our galaxy.

3.) I run SETI@home because my computer is on for weeks at a time, so I figured I could loan out some unused CPU cycles.
