Profile: Tom Merrick

Personal background
I am from Indiana, USA. I'm a 41 yr old factory worker and I own my own business (restoring and selling 80's video arcade games). My hobbies are: R/C cars, planes and boats - Drag racing - Skydiving - Computers - Camping.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I think that God could have created other worlds that contain intelligent life. I'm not sure that they would look like us or if they would have more or less intelligence. I don't think that we will make contact in the near future with the technology we currently have.



2. We probably should transmit some sort of signal continuously into space. If any life were developed enough to 'hear' it, they would try to contact us as well. The beacon should contain basic information about our humanity and where we are located so that any lifeform with the ability to receive it could potentially come to us.



3. I feel that I'm doing my part for science by running SETI@home. I don't have any other means to assist with this search, so I'm doing what I can. I think this is a great project that may produce some pretty astounding results someday. My only suggestion would be to keep tweaking the code for the program to be more efficient so that more results could be returned in less time.
