Personal background
I´m a 37 year old from Austria, where I´ve lived for the past 20 years.
I´m interested in a wide variety of things, starting in siences through to my favorit hobby which is birding.
I grew up in South Africa where I like to return to for vacations, mainly because of the nature reserves the country and because my parents still live there.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My interest in the universe goes back as far as i can remember--although it had quite a few setbacks as I slowly became aware of the fact that a lot of what we are tought, and what is common belief, is founded on speculation.
I forgave scientists ;) for their more or less speculative opinions on the univese (big bang, red postponement etc.

Lets hope that life out there is not only more advanced in tecnology but also ethically. If not were in big trouble when they do reach us.
Which doesent mean that all humans are as thick as to believe that the only way of finding out things is to take it apart. But unfortunatly most people who are in power seem to think so. They call it responsibility for all humans :( !

I run SETI because i´m curious, because idle computer time doesent make much sense to me and because it still seems to be the best implemented distributed computing solution (findin the highest possible prime number makes me yawn).

Even though i find it highly unlikeley that we´ll be listening exactly at the moment and in the direction that messages do reach us, who knows if were in the right spectrum anyway. Nevertheless i´d say if a straw is al you have then cling to it :) .

Good luck to us all!!
