Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
i believe that it is a very small minded view to think that we are alone in the universe.
however, i also feel that it is irrational to think that other races would communicate by radio only. we are a very young species and what we consider great accomplishments may pale in comparison to the advances of other beings in the universe.

i feel that "first contact" with another species will actually bring us down to a lower level of humanity. what i mean is that we will be able to realize that we are not the top of the food chain anymore. for once we will realize that there is another species of sentient beings out there. they may not be better or smarter than us, but we can assume that they are on the same plane as us.

my personal feelings toward SETI are positive feelings. i do think, however, that we should be sending signals to others also.

what we are trying to accomplish with radio telescopes is the same as trying to find a decent music station on the radio in the midde of nowhere New Mexico. (no offense to Nueva Mexicanos). it is just about near impossible to do. so, to let the others out there know that we are listening, we should be sending out some sort of beacon to guide ET towards the bandwidth that we are listening to.

i believe that humanity will be relieved and a little distres at finding ET. we cant change that. i run seti@home for the simple fact that i believe in other races out there. i believe that they are trying to find us like we are trying to find them. i just cant believe that we are so small minded to think that they will be sending signals on the only bandwidths we know of.... maybe we should try something on the hydrogen scale... who knows.... all i know is that im happy to do my part in the search.
