Personal background
I'm a 44 year old reference librarian working at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I'm a "small c" collector of vintage computers which means I actually USE them. A recent purchase at a government auction was a Tandy TRS-100 which I can't drag away from my 10 year old son - he's
doing a lot of programming in Basic and there's something about a machine that will run for 8 hours on 4 AA batteries! My favorite quote is by Kilgore Trout:

"The Universe is a big place ... perhaps the biggest."
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the chance for extraterrestrial life is high. However, due to the probable required electromagnetic signal strength needed, I think it improbable that we will ever find their signals. Just as improbable is that we could ever send a signal that could be detected by others. Since SETI@home is harmless, I thought I'd chip in. You see, I'd love to be wrong!
