Personal background
I am 29 and am currently expanding my mind (not chemically) and progressing my career in IT. I am studying for CCNP and have recently taken several MCSE exams

I have always been interested in space, the universe, how we got here, what was there before time, what happens at the end, if there is one, all that kinda stuff. Guess I'm just the inquisitive type :P

PS. I'm not interested in God, he doesn't exist, never did, get over it people, I mean, how long are you going to hold on to that little theory.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
After reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, several books on the possibilities of alien existence and many physics books on theories of space and time, I have never changed my initial opinion that there must be life out there, its inevitable that, in a universe which is beyond the scope of the human imagination, there is life beyond our planet. The question should be, where are they?

You could say that given we all had the same start (the beginning of the universe) there are likely to be a number of solar systems containing planets just like ours, which have had the same time to develop into a sophisticated society. However, time is only relevant to the individual and there are no reasons why a galaxy/solar system/planet cannot develop a million times faster than ours.

Also its worth remembering that to find transmissions from stars now would only serve as backup to theories of intelligent alien existence, unfortunately the lifeforms who were transmitting would most likely be long gone by the time we received them, unless they are close or even in our own solar system.

Interpretations of what they might try to tell us have been glamourised by the movie industry. Transmitting plans for spaceships and time travel devices, wormhole and dimension doorways. I'm not really sure if aliens would risk sending out this kind of stuff, they would have to be pretty trusting. Either that or they can predict the future and know what we would do.

Anyway, I use SETI@home as I feel this use of unused processor time is extremely valid and I think it will never be over, even if transmissions are found and life is discovered there will always be a reason to search for more.

Keep up the good work SETI and all the SETI@home users.
