Personal background
G'day. I'm a 44 year-old Australian. I've been working in the IT field for some 25 years now both in Australia and Europe. I married Anja Wolf in 1994, and we now have 3 kids (Philip, Johanna and Paul). We live in Canberra.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I sincerely HOPE that ET exists, but as yet there is no evidence for this. But we'll never know if we don't search. The possible benefits of discovering ET include extremely valuable insights into areas of medicine and physics where we are currently having difficulty. The main danger is that we could alert others to our existence, and those others may well turn out to be hostile.

2. We SHOULD transmit a beacon for others to find. It should contain mathematical information in a form so generic that it could be understood by any intelligent beings that stumble across it.

3. I run SETI@home because I believe if we don't search we won't discover. I think it is a very worthwhile use of my spare CPU cycles.
