I am a network engineer from San Jose. Hobbies include SCUBA diving, high power
rocketry, amateur radio, flying, and computers/electronics. I'm running SETI
at home on an iMac (desklamp 800Mhz type), a SPARC Ultra 2 with 2 processors,
a 1.2Ghz AMD Athlon, and part time on an IBM T30 laptop and a titanium powermac.
Current goal is to make it into the top 1,000,000 users. :-) |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I don't know whether ET is out there or not. I don't know whether we will
discover it (or it will discover us). Obviously, the benefits could be anything
from technological exchange to major societal improvements. The potential
hazards are equally broad, ranging from minor diseases to planetary conquest.
I tend to discount the likelihood of the latter, simply because anyone who had
such an ability and wanted our planet would have done so some time ago. |
