Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there are other species in the universe.
I think the first contact will happen in the next 50 years.
Intensive work should be done to capture any data coming from the universe and humanity should pursue space exploration even if at the end the conatct might happen when we expect it the least as usual.
I hope the benefit will be for humanity to see himself as an all and not fighting for each one. The dangers are to have a minority of people who are reluctant to changes to compromise this new big adventure and to have conflicts between goverments on how to manage this first contact. This issue should be discussed and managed from the united nations at a global earth level.
Some years ago, we sent a satellite with an earth message. Even if all the data (radio, TV,...) we transmit into space are already messages toward the universe, if think we should send a clear message like the first one I mentioned above in a mathematic script.
I run this program to be part of the space adventure and have the feeling to bring my stone to this project.
